1 week left!

On Thursday, I met my friends from L’Abri at the train station at 1:45. They had hitched down from the mountain. We walked up to the cathedral, took pictures, and went shopping. It was great to see them again (see pictures)!

On Friday, I walked to Ouchy, went to the souvenirs shop, and took the metro all the way until it stopped. I then walked down from the old part of town to Hotel Bellerive. Later that night, I looked online to see where there was a bowling alley and found one within walking distance of the hotel. Around 9:00, I headed out in the rain to find the bowling alley. The alley had 14 lanes and was packed! The bowling computer screen is all in American and everything is the exact same. I got shoes and went to Lane 1. I threw my first ball and got 9 pins down. Yeah! Of course, one of the pins blocked the ball return. I thought that I could fix the problem by throwing another ball and that did not work. So I had to go up to the counter and try and explain the situation in another language. It eventually got fixed and proceeded with bowling a 151 (see picture). I then took the bus and walked back to the hotel.

I have had a great time in Lausanne and look forward to returning again soon!

Trip to Neckarsulm!

I said goodbye to Inka and got on a train to Neckarsulm to visit Patrick and his family. Patrick was completing his thesis and working in the same research lab I was at the University of Michigan. I arrived in Neckarsulm around 6:00 and Patrick picked me up from the train station. We went back to his parent’s house and had Pizza which his mom had made. It was great using my German. I knew what they were saying! At 8:30, we left his house and walk to his friends house. From there, the 5 of us went to the 8 ball to play pool and darts. It was a really fun evening!! The next day Patrick, Chris (Patrick’s friend), and I traveled to Bad Wimpfen to see some of the sites. The town was great!! Patrick is afraid of heights so Chris and I went up to the top of the castle see the tops of the houses of Bad Wimpfen (see picture). We then came back to Patrick’s house and had a spaetzle dinner with salad (see picture).

It was a wonderful meal! Before leaving to go to the train station at 4:00, Chris and I walked into the town of Neckarsulm to see some of the sites. Both Chris and Patrick took me to the train station. I got back to Lausanne at 10:15 just in time to check back into my hotel. The weekend was great!!
